Frequently Asked Questions
about our CSA
Q. What is the financial investment?
A family share is $700, while a couple’s share is $375. Family
shares may be split into three equal payments of $250 for a
total investment of $750.
Q. Why an upfront fee?
A CSA encourages members to join with the farmer as partners in
the rewards and risks of the farming experience. Just as the
farmer risks capital and labor in anticipation of a future
harvest, the member joins in this sacrifice and in return
experiences the joys of watching the plants grow, hoping for a
good crop, and participating in an abundant harvest.
Q. Can I work in exchange for my share?
Farming requires both capital input and personal labor. While
all members are welcome and invited to participate with and
learn from our growers, we also all participate in the financial
investment of farming. For this reason, we do not offer work
shares without financial cost at this time.
Q. How many vegetables do I get as a
share-holder?
One share is estimated at enough produce to supply two adults
and four children with produce for the full growing season. Half
shares may also be purchased. Generally your financial
investment results in a fairly substantial discount over lower
quality store offerings while providing you with complete farm
experience and education as well.
Q. How do I get my crop?
Shares may be picked up weekly at the farm. As the season
approaches, each family will be given a schedule with their
pick-up times.
Q. Is Simple Times CSA certified organic?
We like to say that we are community certified. While we have
not pursued official organic certification, we use organic
principles and combine them with sustainable practices that go
even beyond run-of-the mill organic operations. No pesticides,
no GMO’s, and no chemical fertilizers are used.
Q. Why Heirloom?
Heirloom varieties of vegetables and fruits have not suffered
from excessive inbreeding and manipulation over the years.
Instead, they are nutrient rich, flavorful, and hardy plants
that have been carefully preserved by conscientious growers who
have passed them from generation to generation.
Q. How long is the growing season?
Growing seasons vary depending on local weather patterns and are
often able to be increased with wise management. Normally, it is
safe to plan on receiving harvests from June through September.
